The Wellness Hat: When skies are grey

Ever had a bad day? Ever vent to a friend and feel a million times better? Don’t you love that good feeling that comes from it? That amazingly good feeling you get when someone is there to listen to you. You see, for a moment in time, you get to hash out the craziness of your day while another person actively listens and provides great support to cheer you up and to cheer you on.

For me, this person is usually my mom, my best friends or my husband. Lately, someone took over this role; and she is only 16 months old.

When I talk to Kelsey, she magically takes all of my problems and floats them away. As if my problems live inside a big balloon. When I get off work, I immediately drive to her school to pick her up. The joy I get when I see her is instant serenity. Our eyes connect and she gets a huge grin on her face. She stomps her feet in excitement and runs over to me. In that moment all of my ”problems” begin to float away.

If you don’t have children, you would probably assume my husband and I have zero time to relax. Because when we get home it’s on to make dinner, do laundry, clean up after baby, water the flowers (baby’s favorite thing to do), feed the animals, bath baby, read books, rock baby to bed, then talk to each other before getting a blog post in. Yet, it is the most valuable busy work we get to do.

I smile most of the time. But, it’s truly because of this girl that I laugh.
