My sister-in-law, Sabrina and my brother, Shaun are in town this weekend. We’ll be spending the afternoon at their resort pool, a much needed staycation for us since we still don’t have our backyard built. Have you ever been to the Sheraton Wild Horse Pass pool during the summer? They have so many family-friendly activities, I’ll let you know how it is.
Last night we had a great dinner at my parents house. I really need to get my mom stemless wine glasses because whenever we have a drink, she uses her wedding china. Not that I’m complaining because it’s beautiful but with my three kids running around it makes me incredibly nervous.
Sabrina and I managed to snap a photo amongst the chaos last night. Oh, and I cut my hair 8 inches! 8. inches. Change is a good thing, don’t ya think.
Do you see Kelsey’s choker? Her friend at school bought her that and she wears it all of the time. How cute is that? She’s turning into such a big kid. And look how tall Colton is! He’s four, people. I bet he passes Kelsey is height by the time he’s five.
Our new house is feeling more like a home every single day. Our home, that is. It’s a strange feeling to move a few neighborhoods away from your old house. You end up driving by the old house whenever you find yourself in the area. Each time I do that, my old house feels more and more like a distant stranger. It’s a weird emotion.
This house, I love love love though. The other night our great friends came by to celebrate this new chapter. They brought their baby, Clementine, and “Colton’s best friend.” They brought wine. They brought gifts. And they brought great memories with them. These two (now, three people) mean so much to us and we loved sharing our new home with them.
The kids were the best babysitters, never leaving her sight.
Thanks to Kelsey, my 7-year-old, for this photo.
We love you, Bocktings!
We are all moved into our new home! Every box is unpacked. Every one. Everything is put away and we can now start to relax. It’s been an incredible few months … an entire year, actually, of packing, unpacking, re-packing, then packing again. I’m never moving again. Quote me on that. I’ll take post some photos of our new place soon, but for now … I’m going to put my feet up and relax. Who am I kidding, I’m going to help my husband hang ceiling fans. Jealous?
He turns into a monster when he has too much video games, so he just got his games back. He hasn’t played them since February. Mostly because we packed them in a box so he would forget all about them. ha! Wish us luck now that the games have been found.
Kelsey’s best friend, Avery came over today for a play date. I took the girls to Skateland in the morning for a birthday party and now they are enjoying cookies that I made for them. I actually made them for me, but if I say I made them for them then I don’t feel so guilty about eating 10 cookies all by myself. Okay, one cookie more and then we’re off to hang ceiling fans. 🙂
I can’t believe I’m starting to plan Nolan’s second birthday party already! Sometimes I look at my little anchor of a boy and I wonder how he got so big! Yet other times I think, is he still only one? Time is funny like that, isn’t it? Recently, Basic Invite reached out to introduce me to their online stationary, including traditional birth announcements, baby boy birth announcements, baby shower online invitations and more! It’s actually perfect timing as I start to figure out what kind of theme Nolan’s birthday party will be. He loves trucks and school busses so maybe we’ll have a truck party. Or, maybe a construction party. Those were my thoughts, but then I saw these birthday party invitations from Basic Invite. Cute, right?
I’m really loving the lego invitation the most. He loves building things. So, who knows … maybe we’ll end up with a school-bus-lego-construction soirée. I have to believe he wouldn’t know the difference either way. As I started the process of putting an invitation together, I noticed how many color options they have! I’m not exaggerating, you can literally change up the colors of each element on the invitations to over 180 different color options. What an awesome way to make sure the card is totally unique to you.
Remind me I said this when February comes around and I have to design Kelsey’s birthday invitations. She is “over pink” now. Apparently, when you enter second grade pink is no longer a thing. Do you know how hard it’s been finding girl things that are not pink?! Impossible.
Follow Basic Invite on Facebook because you never know when they’re going to do a special offer. Right now, if you order birthday cards by Sunday you’ll get 40% off with code FIRST40.

Can you imagine having your own professional photographer follow you around on vacation, snapping candid photos of you and the remarkable scenery that surrounds? A professional photographer who captures exactly what you are seeing, while you stay present in the moment.
Well, my friends … have you heard of Flytographer? They are just that. A team of professional photographers you can hire for candid photo shoots in over 200 cities worldwide! My sister-in-law and brother just hired Flytographer to take photos of their recent trip to Paris. They had the best experience. Their local photographer, Krystal, took pictures on the streets of Montmartre – which is a scenic hill in Paris located in the artistic district. They also got some great shots inside Le Relais de la Butte (a charming cafe) and Patisserie Gilles Marchal bakery.
I was so impressed with how their photos turned out (although, I don’t think I’ve seen these two ever take a bad photo) that it’s inspiring me to start planning our next vacation! Here are some more of their photos that I just adore.
I can’t think of a better way to capture your special moments. In fact, I’m kind of in love with their business model. Check our Flytographer the next time you’re on vacation.
It’s a gazillion degrees in Phoenix. I won’t sit here and give you that sob story, but once it reaches 120 degrees (like it did last Tuesday), I can’t help but wonder why I live here. It’s actually funny, I went to happy hour last week and it felt like a ghost town. No one was out. No one was walking around. But, there we were, two girls catching up over Rosé Popsicles at Garage East. Sometimes even a horrible heat wave can’t keep you away from good friends and cocktails.
A girls night out at the Phoenix Ballet was just what I needed. What a performance! I wasn’t sure what to expect, but was completely blown away by the Phoenix Ballet’s amazing grace, incredible choreography and remarkable show. We went to Ballet Moods in May. This was part traditional ballet followed by progressive, modern ballet choreographed by Albert Blaise Cattafi (who choreographed for John Legend and Cirque de Soleil).
The show was at The Orpheum Theatre in downtown Phoenix so we decided Hanny’s for pre-show cocktails and dinner was a great choice (it’s within walking distance to the venue). Follow the Phoenix Ballet on Facebook or visit them online here to stay connected. You won’t want to miss an upcoming performance.
I took my first spin class! Where have I been hiding out? These classes are incredible. My friend Liz and I decided to forgo happy hour for a “FlyBeats” class at Flywheel Sports in Scottsdale. Let’s just say our instructor, Erin Campbell rocked our world!
I had no idea what to expect. I workout at Orange Theory regularly so I was pretty sure I could make it through the class, but I had no idea how challenging these 45-minute spin classes were going to be. The workout room is “stadium style” to ensure no riders are directly on top of each other. The room is dark, the music is loud, the atmosphere feels like a rock concert which makes the 45 minutes fly by. No pun intended.
Don’t worry about buying shoes that clip in, they provide those for you. And lockers, towels and fresh fruit to follow your workout. You can also reserve your bike in advance online. I’m super controlling, so I love that. Every instructor is different but I was so pleased with Erin. She had great energy and amazing music (I went home and downloaded some of her playlist).
That’s Erin on the right. Jeremiah is in the middle and he is amazing – from my first visit I could tell that the staff here really cares about you and wants you to succeed in your workouts.
I’m going to spare you the after photo of Liz and I. Let’s just say I didn’t think sweating that much was possible. According to their website, I rode 21 miles in 45 minutes. WHAT! That is incredible. Huge thanks to Flywheel Sports for having us and for giving me such a positive outlook on Spin classes. I’ll be back for more! If you are a first timer at Flywheel, your first ride is only $15. Check it out, I highly recommend it.
