The New Austin City Library

We took my little bookworm to the new Austin City Library yesterday. The library is six stories! It was remarkable. It really puts all of our library’s to shame. The children’s section is amazing – filled with interactive games, reading stations, outdoor areas and shelves upon shelves of books. If you are in Austin and you haven’t been, the Austin City Library is a must-visit. The architecture alone will make you stop in awe.

Pardon our hair. We weren’t expecting to take photos (ha!) and it was record high heat plus humidity in Austin yesterday. 86 degrees in November! What gives, Austin?

Birthday “Silobration” at Magnolia Market

For my birthday, I wanted to cross something off my bucket list. Maybe that’s what you do when you get older. I’m 35 today, and – as my mom kindly put it – I’m half way to 70. So, that’s great. In all seriousness, I have actually loved getting older. Since I met my husband every year has been better than the last. I’ve been blessed with three kids, a wonderful husband and a lifestyle that I feel privileged to live.

So when my brother, mom, sister-in-law and daughter all agreed to drive up from Austin to Waco, TX and spend the day at Magnolia Market, I didn’t pass it up. We bought a lot of great things, got inspired by Joanna’s incredible visual merchandising and stood in line for an hour for one of the most moist and delicious cupcakes that I have ever had! Thank you to my family for making my birthday one to remember.

Here are a few photos from our day at Magnolia Market.

I was taking my brother’s photo when I realized, THEY LOOK JUST LIKE CHIP AND JOANNA. Like, just like them. Am I right?

I’m telling you … these cupcakes were worth the hour wait. Incredibly delicious and the shop inside was so cute. Not to mention that every associate was so nice and helpful. They ask you where you are from and really make you feel like family while you are there. Besides that, they all say “y’all” and to me … that is so dang cute!

Thank you so much to my family for making the trek with me! It was truly a day to remember and I loved every moment of it. I could seriously go back … and back, and back again and see different things each time. If you haven’t been and are on the fence … GO. It’s worth it.

When I told the sales associate it was my birthday, she went into the back room and came back with this, it is called the “Silobration cupcake.” She said, “This is a little treat from Chip and Joanna.” It was so sweet! Literally. This little gesture made my day feel that much more special.

Kelsey found this magnifying glass and would go around telling me how much everything was. She was my little helper.

Thank you to the Gaines family for creating this special place and for living up to my every expectation.

Sister, Sister!

My sister-in-law, Sabrina and my brother, Shaun are in town this weekend. We’ll be spending the afternoon at their resort pool, a much needed staycation for us since we still don’t have our backyard built. Have you ever been to the Sheraton Wild Horse Pass pool during the summer? They have so many family-friendly activities, I’ll let you know how it is.

Last night we had a great dinner at my parents house. I really need to get my mom stemless wine glasses because whenever we have a drink, she uses her wedding china. Not that I’m complaining because it’s beautiful but with my three kids running around it makes me incredibly nervous.

Sabrina and I managed to snap a photo amongst the chaos last night. Oh, and I cut my hair 8 inches! 8. inches. Change is a good thing, don’t ya think.

Do you see Kelsey’s choker? Her friend at school bought her that and she wears it all of the time. How cute is that? She’s turning into such a big kid. And look how tall Colton is! He’s four, people. I bet he passes Kelsey is height by the time he’s five.

A Flytographer in Paris

Paris Flytographer - Krystal

Can you imagine having your own professional photographer follow you around on vacation, snapping candid photos of you and the remarkable scenery that surrounds? A professional photographer who captures exactly what you are seeing, while you stay present in the moment.

Well, my friends … have you heard of Flytographer? They are just that. A team of professional photographers you can hire for candid photo shoots in over 200 cities worldwide! My sister-in-law and brother just hired Flytographer to take photos of their recent trip to Paris. They had the best experience. Their local photographer, Krystal, took pictures on the streets of Montmartre – which is a scenic hill in Paris located in the artistic district. They also got some great shots inside Le Relais de la Butte (a charming cafe) and Patisserie Gilles Marchal bakery.

I was so impressed with how their photos turned out (although, I don’t think I’ve seen these two ever take a bad photo) that it’s inspiring me to start planning our next vacation! Here are some more of their photos that I just adore.

I can’t think of a better way to capture your special moments. In fact, I’m kind of in love with their business model. Check our Flytographer the next time you’re on vacation.

What Real Life Looks Like

I’m so over all of the perfect family photo floating around Instagram. That. is. not. real. This is what real mom life looks like. You know, just trying to get a photo of my family but Nolan refuses to wear pants (I have to sneak into his room at night and put pajama pants on him so he won’t freeze) and Colton has so much energy that I wish I could bottle it up and use it for myself. Kelsey loves giving me attitude, rolling her eyes and making me feel like I am a mother to a teenager. But, at the end of the day, I love them so incredibly much and sometimes (just sometimes) they look at me and smile. Other times, it goes a little something like this.

Mornings with God and Family

We made it to church this morning, besides the rain that tried to get in our way. Have you ever tried to get three kids, four umbrellas and yourself into a church building? It’s really difficult. Not to mention the fact that I was wearing heels. But, we made it and there is truly no better way to start the morning. My heart is full today. I would love to blog more and tell you all about what’s been going on in my crazy household, but Ryan’s out grilling in the rain and the fort I built my kids just caved in. Gotta run, but I promise I’ll be a better blogger soon.

Sunday Funday with Friends

When our good friends, Teri and Danny came over with their newest bundle (baby ClementiMe – as Colton calls her), I couldn’t help but imagine what my life would be like with another baby in the mix. But then that notion was quickly squashed when I was holding baby Clementine and couldn’t keep my eyes on the three other kids running around my feet and trying to crawl into my lap. Props to those families with over three kids. I couldn’t do it!

In fact, while we were visiting, it suddenly became very quiet in our house (which is always an indicator that something is up). Sure enough, Nolan (my 16 month old) comes strolling out of the bathroom with my eyeliner on! All I could think of was … OMG that stuff is so expensive! That little squirt. Which proved even further that I wouldn’t be able to function with any more children.

We’re so thankful for fun Sunday’s like these. The circus tent in the background is super fitting … considering parenthood feels like a bit of a circus sometimes. Anyone else with me on that?

Colton just loved on her so much! He kept asking to hold the baby and would slowly pet her head. He couldn’t get enough. He’s one sweet boy.

And there’s baby Nolan, rocking mom’s favorite eyeliner and his best Zoolander expression.

New Years Day!

We got breakfast burritos for the kids and took all of their bikes to the park. Sounds normal, but it was an important day because Kelsey started riding her new bike WITHOUT training wheels! Hallelujah! All it took was a bigger bike and a bit of confidence and she was sailing.

I was a nervous wreck (does that feeling ever go away?) trying to stay within feet of her so I could catch her when she fell. She didn’t need me or Ryan though, this girl was cruising. Colton is starting on his “strider” starter bike. We love it! Have you seen this thing? No pedals to help them glide and learn how to balance. I wish we got one for Kelsey when she was learning to ride.

These little monkeys bring so much joy (and stress, let’s be clear, there is a lot of stress!) to our lives, but the pure love that radiates around us when we are all together is magic. It’s going to be a great year, I can’t wait to discover what’s in store for us.

Happy 2017, friends!
