The All-About-Me Hat: Gloomy Days

This is how I feel today. I kind of want to pull my hair out. I’m super stressed and feel like I’m getting pulled in 1.2 million directions. I think every person can relate (mom or not) to feeling like this every once in a while. Perhaps it’s healthy? If it weren’t for the bad days, we wouldn’t appreciate the good ones (I just rolled my eyes as I wrote that). But … rather than sit and sulk, I decided to write about all the things that make me smile. And, it worked! I started feeling better just taking a few minutes to reflect on these things.

Things that make me happy:

  • This face

 

  • My husband’s smile
  • Re-runs of Saved by the Bell
  • The moment when your head hits your pillow
  • Creative writing
  • When you get to the cash register and the item rings up lower than the price tag
  • Good hair days
  • Listening to my daughter try to talk
  • Sitting beachside without internet access
  • Looking at a full moon
  • Gossiping with my girlfriends over a glass of wine
  • Hearing someone say “I love you”
  • Getting a “wave” after I let someone cut in front of me in traffic
  • Chubby, baby legs
  • Helping someone else
  • Going to church
  • Hot pink nail polish
  • Spending an entire day doing nothing but Rock Band with Ryan
  • Seeing my family when they are in town
  • Decorating a Christmas tree
  • Hearing my dad mispronounce everyone’s name*

My favorite moments are when my dad tries to stay in touch with celebrity gossip. He can’t pronounce anyone’s name! My favorite was when he said (with such enthusiasm), “Stephanie, did you hear Jessica Simpson and Nick Lack-ey broke up?”

  1. Good for you. Writing is very therapeutic for me, but that’s a recent discovery. I roll my eyes as I type the corny realities as well. I agree though, bad days are so you appreciate the good ones. Thanks for sharing.
