The Blogger Hat: Amazing Guest Blogger Alert

I am transcending myself (and you) to Antigua.
.
My brother, Shaun and Sabrina just returned from a week-long vacation to Antigua! I asked Sabrina to give me the update on their vacation, what she liked – what she didn’t – and how it was traveling with my brother (Lord only knows). And, as my first guest blogger, Sabrina came back with this awesome blog post about their trip.
.
I hope you enjoy reading about their trip much as I did.

“Shaun and I were in paradise for 8 days. We stayed at an amazing hotel, the St. James Club Antigua. We did almost everything on the island. We went kayaking, sailing, snorkeling and zip lining. We got a massage, rode on wave runners and relaxed by the beach, the bay and pool.
.
I would have to say our favorite day was going on the Catamaran to Bird Island and snorkeling. We hiked up Bird Island, had drinks, ate lunch back on the boat and then explored St. John, the capital of Antigua. I wish we had more time to explore St. John!”

“The food was amazing! Lobster, mahi mahi, salmon, duck, lamb and red snapper. Shaun had suckling pig (which I really liked) and he tried escargo (which I couldn’t do). The most popular beer in Antigua is called Wadadli, which was our favorite. At the resort, their signature drink was a rum punch and it was great. It had a hint of cinnamon on top which really made it stand out.
.
For breakfast, we went all out. We ate waffles with whip cream, strawberry sauce and syrup, sometimes butter. They had great breads, pastries, cheeses, and meats (which I went for a lot). The hotel had beans at the buffet, which we didn’t eat, but we kept commenting how interesting it was to have beans next to the breakfast potatoes.
.
Our resort was great. It was slightly old fashion, not as new and modern as you see resorts in the U.S., but that was part of its charm. The resort was fantastic. We were very lucky to have a suite hotel roomwith an oversized balcony right on the water. Here’s a view as we arrived at our hotel. And a view from our balcony.”

“Interesting thing to learn: Antigua has lambs and goats everywhere! They are just grazing along the sides of the roads. (We learned that a goat’s tail is up and a lamb’s tail is down. Who knew?).
.
I didn’t know this, but Antigua has alovera plants everywhere – this plant is very popular here. One man sold a leaf to us for five dollars! He was probably one of the funniest guys we met. He wouldn’t give up trying to get Shaun to buy it. He kept saying, “for the Mrs., for the Mrs., heal all mosquito bite”. This man basically said that this plant did everything (like it was magic). After denying him a few times, he just started pouring it all over me so Shaun had to buy him a beer to get him to go away. It was pretty funny.
.
If you’re going to Antigua, you have to check out Shirley Heights. The music, food, arts and crafts, and views are amazing. Here’s some photos from our time at Shirley Heights.

Also, eat at Abracadabra restaurant. Abracadabra is an Italian restaurant and it was by far the best place we ate. Great customer service and the food was out of this world. This restaurant also had a dance floor in the front, with lights and screens. They usually have several costume parties (last one was pirate themed).
.
I wouldn’t miss going to Nelson’s Dockyard National Park. We walked around there, and I only wish I had more time to explore their restaurants. Here is a photo of us at Nelson’s Dockyard.”

“I would definitely go back to Antigua. It is a small tropical island that was so different from any other place I have been to. It was so peaceful and serene (and not touristy). The water was gorgeous, very blue and clear.”
.
We felt as if for one week the world stopped and we were in a dream.”
.

.
Sabrina – Thank you for letting me post about your amazing vacation and for taking a busy mom on a vacation. Even it was just through your photos and your stories. And yes, if Shaun wasn’t embarrassed by how many photos you took. This blog post should do the trick. xo
