Tonight, we gathered around the dining room and sang, “happy birthday to kelsey.” And as we sang, those baby blues lit up brighter than the candles on her cake. She would look at us, then look back at her cake, then back at us again … smiling all the while.
She knew it was her birthday. Her teachers made her a pink, paper crown that read (in gold glitter), “Birthday Girl” and her friends at school gathered around and sang to her. This Saturday we’ll celebrate with her friends at the park. Oh boy.
In the words of my dad, “Hard to believe, isn’t it?”
