The Travel Hat: Snorkling in Kauai

If there is one thing I wouldn’t do again while in Kauai, it’s the boat cruise and snorkel adventure. I have a few reasons why. It was so long. I’m talking 7 hours-ish long. And the ride from our hotel, The St. Regis Princeville, to the dock where your boat awaits is over an hour. Two hours in a bus. 7 hours on a boat. Pass.

Besides, I totally got sick 2 hours into the boat ride and had to ride in the back of the boat, wearing a wet towel over my head. I was that girl. About 1/3 of the way into your trip, the Captain anchors the boat near this beautiful reef and hands you some snorkel gear. (This is the part where you get all excited and jump out of the boat). Me? I was terrified. So, I stayed on the rocking boat with one of my girlfriends and watched Ryan have his fun.

Besides the rough waters, hot weather, my sudden fear of deep waters, and a queasy tummy, it actually was a beautiful ride. The view was spectacular and we got to see some whales, a family of dolphins and a sea turtle. Ryan loved it. And I admit, I got to see the island in a fresh new light. Here are some photos from the day (before I got sea-sick and became the loser of the boat).

Beautiful. Beautiful. Beautiful. If only the trip was 3 hours versus 7-ish.
